We sell toys for small children. It's the most closely watched category in the whole European Union, and we think that's right. This page explains exactly what we check before we put a product on sale.

Which rules apply

  • Directive 2009/48/EC on the safety of toys, which requires CE marking and an EU declaration of conformity.
  • EN 71 harmonised standards: EN 71-1 (mechanical and physical properties, including small parts), EN 71-2 (flammability), EN 71-3 (migration of heavy metals in paints and varnishes) and EN 71-9/-10/-11 where they apply to the finishes.
  • Regulation (EU) 2023/988 (GPSR), on General Product Safety, applicable since December 2024: traceability, mandatory information on the product page and a recall procedure.
  • Regulation (EU) 2025/2509, the new Toy Safety Regulation, fully applicable from August 2030. We're getting our catalogue ready for the Digital Product Passport it introduces.

Our protocol before listing a product

  1. We ask the manufacturer for the EU declaration of conformity and the EN 71 test reports issued by an accredited laboratory, with a verifiable report number. We don't accept a certificate without traceability.
  2. We keep the technical documentation for 10 years and the supply chain traceability records for 6, as the rules require.
  3. We carry out and document our own risk analysis for every product: small parts, cords, magnets, edges, bite resistance and finishes.
  4. We rule out high-risk categories. We don't sell toys with loose high-powered magnets, with accessible button batteries or with electrical components.
  5. On every product page we publish the recommended age, the safety warnings, the materials, the identity of the manufacturer and that of the responsible economic operator in the European Union, in accordance with article 19 of the GPSR.

How to report a safety problem

If you've spotted a risk or a defect, or you've had an incident with a product bought from Nooki, write to us straight away at seguridad@nooki.es giving the order number, the product and a description of what happened, with photos if possible. We undertake to reply within a maximum of 48 working hours, to investigate the case and, where appropriate, to notify the authorities through the Safety Business Gateway and start the recall procedure.

Safe use tips

  • Always respect the recommended age shown on the product page and on the packaging.
  • Toys with small parts are not suitable for children under 36 months: choking hazard.
  • Supervise younger children at play.
  • Remove the packaging, plastic bags and fastenings before giving the toy to a child.
  • Check the condition of the toy from time to time and take it away if it has splinters, breaks or loose parts.
  • Clean the wood with a slightly damp cloth. Don't soak it or put it in the dishwasher.
